The New Moon In Capricorn“What Are You Building?”

What are You Building?

The very first New Moon of the Calendar year begins on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 11:51 am PST. As many of you know, I follow the Moon Cycles very closely. The importance of this cycle each month is paramount to understanding our unconscious needs and energy.

This cycle is significant for those with planets in late degree cardinal signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. The New Moon occurs at 28”43’ of Capricorn. If you have these energies at late degrees, this is a powerful start to your New Year.

The Invitation to Build

New Moons are a quiet reset. The Moon disappears from the sky, offering us a pause—a time to reflect, turn inward, slow down, and listen. Reflect on what you truly need, what you're ready to release, and what you want to call in this cycle. The Moon teaches us this lesson all year.

Over the next two weeks, as we move toward the Full Moon, momentum gradually builds. What we plant NOW begins to take shape through conscious and deliberate action.

During any New Moon, the Sun and Moon align in the same degree of the same sign, blending intention with instinct. This alignment invites us to plant seeds, begin again, and explore new possibilities. It’s a time of renewal—an opportunity to get clear about how we want to spend our time, energy, and attention in the weeks ahead.

With this New Moon in Capricorn, we’re asked to redefine success on our terms. This is about cutting through distractions and rebuilding the structure of our lives so it reflects who we are now—not who we used to be or who we think we should be. It’s an invitation to examine how much of our self-worth is tied to productivity, achievement, or external validation, and to move toward a life in which our inner truth and outer reality align.

Readying….

As the year begins to unfold, this Capricorn New Moon is a time of readying… A time to prepare the body and mind for what’s ahead.  It is about clarifying our priorities and orienting ourselves toward what we genuinely want to build—not just in the coming weeks, but in the months and years to come.

Capricorn energy reminds us to take ourselves seriously. It is ruled by the planet Saturn, reminding us to also “take our time” but to take our dreams seriously. And to plan and remember that we are responsible for bringing our visions into form.

This New Moon invites us to investigate our unique and somewhat unconscious understanding of time. How much time do we really have? Focusing on how we invest our energy, the choices we make each day, and how those choices shape our future will be recurring themes all year.

Patience matters. But so does consistency.  Looking at our current habits and changing them as needed will require showing up for what is important —even when progress feels slow, or the work feels unglamorous or challenging—and trusting that steady, consistent effort adds up.

Rather than focusing solely on goals or milestones, this New Moon encourages us to commit to becoming the person who can hold the life we want to create. It’s a call to maturity—to align our daily decisions with our long-term vision, and to redefine our relationship with responsibility, discipline, and commitment. It’s also a gentle check-in: are we holding ourselves accountable with compassion, or slipping into guilt or excuses?

Other Planets that Are Involved

This New Moon closely aligns with Mars and Mercury in Capricorn and Venus and Pluto in early Aquarius, adding intensity and focus, especially in relationships.

In recent days, powerful planetary alignments have surfaced unsustainable relational patterns. Old conditioning, power dynamics, and connecting habits have been highlighted, prompting us to rethink and restructure how we relate. These themes don’t fade with the New Moon—they deepen.

Wrapping it UP!

We’ve just had the chance to take an honest look at our attachment patterns and relationship dynamics. Now, the invitation is to do something with that awareness: to practice new ways of asserting ourselves, setting boundaries, and reshaping existing connections so they better reflect who we are becoming.

Pluto’s closeness to the New Moon—and its powerful connection with Venus—supports deep transformation in how we relate, what we value, and how we exchange energy, including money and resources. This alignment asks us to examine outdated power structures, fear-based attachments, and control dynamics, both personally and collectively. It invites us to choose relationships and communities rooted in authenticity, equality, and shared growth.

With Mercury aligned with Mars and the New Moon in Capricorn, communication is crucial. Be intentional with words, mindful in conflict, and honest about needs. New approaches to tough conversations are available if we slow down, stay present, and lead with integrity. Embrace this New Moon as an anchor for purposeful change and renewed commitment, knowing that each choice you make shapes a more aligned and authentic future.

Here are some suggestions for this New Moon Cycle.

  • Be honest about what you are responsible for and to.

  • If you feel that something is NOT yours to do, bow out.

  • Be careful and define success on YOUR terms
