Lunar Nodes are two mathematical points where the Moon's orbit crosses the Sun's apparent path around the Earth (the ecliptic). Although they are not physical planets or stars, they are among the most significant points in astrology.

The North Node represents growth, learning, and the qualities your soul is encouraged to develop in this lifetime. It points to your future, what you are here to learn.  It is your evolutionary path and untapped strengths.

The South Node represents the traits, habits, and patterns that come easily and naturally. It is connected to your comfort zone and, in many astrological traditions, reflects past-life themes or deeply ingrained tendencies.

The lunar nodes are always directly opposite one another in the chart, in opposite signs.

Their relationship suggests that life isn't about abandoning the South Node altogether. Instead, it's about using your inherent strengths indicated by their placement while consciously moving toward the qualities of the North Node.  This invites self-reflection and awareness, and that life is a synthesis and dynamic balance between honoring your past and embracing your future.

For example, if you were born with the North Node in Aries and the South Node in Libra, your path is to embrace the relationship abilities that you learned in the past (South Node in Libra) and grow forward, developing independence and courage within yourself (North Node in Aries).

This life path is about going from pleasing others to honoring yourself. The South Node in Libra seeks approval and harmony, is skilled in relationships, will avoid conflict, can lose their identity in partnership, and is fair and cooperative.  The North Node in Aries needs to develop courage and independence, learn healthy self-assertion, take initiative, and be comfortable being alone when necessary.   The work is to balance cooperation with authenticity, and learn that healthy relationships begin with knowing who you are.
