Embracing Our Shadow Work: A Journey of Transformation! September 2025 Eclipses
"Three things cannot be long hidden:
The Sun, the Moon, and the Truth"
~Buddha
September brings two eclipse cycles: a total lunar eclipse on September 7 and a partial solar eclipse on September 21. Eclipses occur when the Sun is partially or entirely obscured from our view, and the Moon is sitting between the Sun and the Earth.
Why is this cycle so important, and what is Shadow work?
Eclipse cycles are considered focused times of 'shadow work.’ They occur a few times each year. 'Shadow work' is the unique process of understanding and accepting the parts of ourselves that we tend to ignore or hide. In Jungian psychology, the shadow refers to a collection of all the hidden, rejected, or repressed aspects of our psyche that we have disowned or repressed.
The primary goal for healthy, balanced living is to uncover your unique shadow, which lies between your conscious and unconscious self. Once understood, there is an opportunity to integrate what emerges from your unconscious self into your conscious self. Becoming aware of these hidden aspects enables you to enhance your relationships, overcome self-sabotaging behaviors, and become a unique whole in your body and in your mind.
Your Astrological chart can identify potential shadow traits, patterns, and unconscious pressures. With the guidance of an astrologer, your shadow issues can be integrated, leading to personal growth and development. Astrology can help pinpoint these aspects by examining the Lunar Node placement in your chart, as well as where the Eclipse cycles will fall each year.
How will this affect me?
An Eclipse cycle is an 18-month journey of personal growth. On January 12, 2025, the North Node went into Pisces, the South Node into Virgo. If you have planets in those signs, this is a powerful cycle for you and can create increased instability and shadow work. However, remember that instability also brings growth opportunities. This cycle will change signs on July 26, 2026, and move into Aquarius and Leo.
Pisces is a mutable water sign and tends to take the path of least resistance. They can remain stuck in wanting peace at any cost, resulting in passive aggression. They must learn to overcome the shadow of emotional overwhelm, procrastination, avoidance in dealing with reality, victim mentality, apathy, and a lack of boundaries.
Virgo is a mutable earth sign and tends toward perfectionism, overthinking, judgment, and criticism. Excessive worry can manifest as a desire to control situations and people, which ultimately leads to inflexibility and a reluctance to take risks. They must learn to overcome these shadows and work toward trust, gratitude, and self-compassion.
Eclipses will bring to "light" hidden aspects of yourself into conscious awareness in one specific area of your life. Shadow work involves bringing these hidden aspects out into the open to understand their origins and integrate them into your personality.
Engaging in this process and understanding the dynamic of this work will lead to emotional healing, reduced inner conflict, increased authenticity, love, and empowerment.
